1
Good: Excellent to drive. More spacious than original Mondeo. Estate roomier than a Merc E-Class. Good value used.
Bad: Some early models have uncomfortable seats. Limited storage for odds and ends. Various problem areas including DMFs on diesels.
2
Good: Much prettier with more room and more performance than original Jazz, more fun to drive. Excellent versatility. 120PS 1.5 with 5-speed auto best.
Bad: Euro 6-speed I-SHIFT is for economy and emissions rather than CVT, but works well. I-SHIFT failed EC CO2 tests. Is £120 tax, not £35. 1.5 N/A UK.
3
Good: Far better than previous Vectra. Now with decent handling and an excellent ride. Plenty of safety kit. Roomy in the front. Big boot. Good looks.
Bad: Not as sharp as a Mondeo. Limited rear legroom. The 2.2DI can be heavy on the oil. Reports of parking brake failures.
4
Good: Virtually flawless drive. Proper five-seater and a feeling of rock-solid quality inside. Five-star crash test rating.
Bad: Cautious, bland styling did not have the impact of the original Focus.
5
Good: The best family car made better, restyled outside, all external panels new, all ride, handling and safety values retained. Low CO2 1.6 diesels.
Bad: Very popular, so no attached status.
6
Good: Clever interior redefined the small car. Has proved to be very reliable.
Bad: 110PS 1.5 litre engines never available in the UK.
7
Good: Superb drive. Roomy cabin has been beautifully thought through. Massive choice of used Focus at sensible prices. Better car than a Golf.
Bad: Lacks snob appeal of a Golf.
8
Good: Light weight. Stiff structure. Base models have fine ride and handling compromise.
Bad: More expensive versions less successful. DPF problem with 2.0 diesels can lead to engine failure.
9
Good: Roomy, practical interior. Good looks. Refined engines include a fuel-efficient diesel. A satisfying and reliable car to own.
Bad: Not as sporty as a Focus. The 1.6 can be too vocal at motorway speeds. Potential faults with electric power steering.
10
Good: Bags of room and a comfortable ride. The saloon is the best looker and sharpest handler of the line-up. Depreciates slower than the Focus II.
Bad: Steering of early 2.0 petrol cars lacks feel.
